Clinical Review of the Congenital Anomaly


Abstract
Total 625 cases of congenital anomalous disease (including hernia, and intussusception) have been reviewed. This review has been made for the better understanding of Korean congenital disease, its frequency, and the status today. And also it is strongly hoped that this review may help in earlier recognition of disease, and better understanding, judgement, and treatment.
The case is limited to the operated patients in General Surgery Department, National Medical Center from 1964 to 1973.
1. 625 cases are equivalent to 6.6% of 9436 operated cases which had been operated in General Surgery Department, National Medical Center in Korea from 1964 to 1973.
2. The order of disease in frequency is as follows:
159 cases (25.3%) of Cleft lip, and palate, 146 cases (23.3%) of inguinal hernia, 65 cases (10.4%) of Intussusception, 57 cases (9. 1%) of Atresia ani, 44 cases (7.0%) of Hydrocele, 28 cases (4.5%) of Hemangioma, 24 cases (3.8%) of Congenital megacolon, 21 cases (3.3%) of Hypospadia, 13 cases (2.1%) of Congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, 13 cases (2.1%) of Cryptorchidism, Pigmented nevus, Cystic hygroma, Thyroglossal duct and cyst, Polycystic kidney, Omphalocele, Pseudo, or True hermaphroditism, Tongue tie, Intestinal atresia, and each one case of Choledoc-hal cyst, Gastroschisis, Annular pancreas, Malrotaion of intestine, and Total situs inversus.
3. Each case has been reviewed briefly.
4. Operative mortality rate is 1. 8% (11 cases).
